CUISINE – 美食

Typical food of Tibetan cuisine – Ghee, beef, mutton and momo. Traditional Tibetan cooking methods are mainly boiled and fried, supplemented with certain mixed, steamed, and raw foods. There are few stir-fried dishes due to the high altitude of Tibet, which makes it difficult to stir-fry dishes. The raw materials of traditional Tibetan cuisine are mainly Tibetan barley, beef and mutton, mutton offal, ghee and milk residue. Seasonal vegetables are not abundant in Tibetan recipes. Tibetan cuisine is unique due to the high altitude of the Tibetan plateau, the harsh climate, and Tibetans’ traditional and religious beliefs and customs. The daily diet of the Tibetan people consists largely of meat and dairy products, high in protein, to combat the extreme climate conditions. The diet also contains highland barley, one of the few crops that can grow well on the high plateau. TEMPLES – 寺廟

Lhagang, also known as Tagong (塔公). Sichuan, China. Tagong ( “favorite place of bodhisattva’” ) is home to Tagong Monastery (Lhagang Gompa), constructed during the Qing Dynasty (1644 to 1911) to honor the journey of Princess Wencheng on her way to Lhasa for her wedding to Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo. It houses a replica of the sacred statue of Jowo Sakya-muni Buddha at Jokhang Temple in Lhasa along with scriptures of the Sakya Buddhist sect and other cultural relics more than 10,000 years old.
